Rochester: Day 3

Seneca Park Zoo Snow Leopard Kaba
We are spending Easter Sunday in Rochester and surrounds. First stop was Trout Lake, alongside the Genesee River where we met the resident white swans, Canadian geese, and a woodpecker! Then around the corner to Seneca Park zoo where we saw much wildlife from the US, such as North American river otters, bald eagles, raccoons, and red ear slider turtles. There were also animals from further abroad and we were greeted by a reluctant snow leopard and saw an elephant enjoying a bath.

Next stop was the Corning Museum of Glass, 90 minutes south-east of Rochester. This amazing museum dedicated to telling the story of glass. We watched an artist sculpt a koi fish in a flame working demonstration, learnt about tempering and stress at the glass breaking demo, and saw a vase being blow in the hot shop. It is a fantastic museum where learnt that RIT is actually one of only two universities in New York State that offers courses in glass art.

Last stop was Letchworth State Park to see the beautiful, and aptly named Upper, Middle, and Lower Falls. Due to the late snow and above average rainfall this spring the water levels are high in the Rochester area, and the best place to appreciate this is at Letchworth.
